This year NSW Youth Week will be taking place from 20-30 April, 2023. Youth Week is an exciting opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities and events. It's also an important time for communities to be reminded of the need to honour and listen to the voices of youth. Have you thought about how you will celebrate Youth Week this year?
Strategic Plan Tracking Report
We are proud to launch the first NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People Tracking Report. The report highlights the changes in children and young people's experiences since we launched the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People 2022-2024 last year. The Tracking Report identifies recent trends across the six core commitment areas of the Plan. The report can be accessed here.
Visiting Forbes and Eugowra
Members of our team recently had the privilege of visiting flood affected towns in Central NSW to provide support to communities alongside the NRL, Thread Together and KYUP! We visited local schools, hosted a community evening in Eugowra and ran consultations with children and young people from across the region. Check out what we got up to on our socials (acypnsw).
Children's Week 2023
The Children’s Week National Theme for 2023 is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
Article 31: Children have the right to relax, play and to join in a wide range of leisure activities. This year Children’s Week will be observed between 21 – 29 October 2023. Have you thought about how you and your organisation will celebrate Children's Week?
Cobham TEDx
Members of our team had the pleasure of attending the recent TEDx event at Cobham where a group of the young people shared their journeys of culture and identity. The event covered inspiring stories of hope, courage, culture and identity. The event also showcased artworks that some of the young people had created.

February YAC Meeting
The YAC gathered on the weekend for their regular meeting to discuss a range of topics. They engaged in consultations with NESA regarding curriculum and assessment and participated in a public speaking workshop with Jahin Tanvir. The YAC also met with Sonder, discussed ways to increase student voice in schools and helped the team develop a factsheet for the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People.
Meet our team
Over the next few months we will be sharing profiles of our team, starting with these four incredible members of the ACYP team.
I’m interning at ACYP while completing a Bachelor of Social Science at WSU. I’m a passionate advocate for the rights of children and young people constrained by systems of welfare and justice.
I’m a proud Aboriginal woman with family ties all over Eora Nation and have grown between Dharug and Gumbaynggirr Country my whole life. My free time is spent loving and delighting in the lands, skies, and waters of my homes.
I’m a Senior Policy Advisor at ACYP and I’ll take any opportunity I can to talk about Education, Health and evidence-based decision-making.
Before working at ACYP, I worked in research and, before that, in various support roles in schools.
When I’m not at work I’ll be exploring the bush near my home in Heathcote, playing board games, and finding excuses to eat good food in the sunshine.
I’m the videographer and a member of fantastic digital team at ACYP. Capturing the voices of children and young people and creating engaging videos to support the work of the office is what I do, and I love it.
Outside of work, you’ll find me taking photos of food that my wife makes, kicking the football with my 3 sons, drinking good coffee, or at an early gym session with mates.
Before starting at ACYP in 2022 as the Executive Assistant, I worked in media for 20 years doing digital advertising, campaign integration and corporate sports sponsorship.
In my spare times you’ll usually find me at the beach with my partner and our four girls or camping down the South Coast.
I also love a Sunday cheese board and doing boxing to keep fit.
Thank you for your continued support. If you would like to know more about anything in this newsletter or have any questions, please get in touch by emailing acyp@acyp.nsw.gov.au.
