Enter the NSW Children’s Week 2024 Art Competition
The Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People together with the NSW Children’s Week Council is inviting entries for the NSW Children’s Week 2024 Art competition.
Children’s Week runs from 19 October – 27 October 2024. The Children’s Week National Theme for 2024 is based on the UNCRC Article 24: Children have the right to a clean and safe environment.
Participating in the competition is an opportunity for children and young people to think about parts of the environment that are important to them and the ways they connect and love the environment.
About the competition
Children and young people are invited to submit an artwork that shows the ways they connect and love the environment around them.
The competition is open to all children and young people up to the age of 18 living in New South Wales. Group entries are allowed and encouraged.
The competition is open from Monday 19 August to Sunday 13 October 2024.

Steps on how to enter
Brainstorm
Before you start creating your artwork, take a moment to brainstorm:
- which parts of the environment you enjoy being in regularly?
- where you feel connected to the environment and why?
- how you show the environment love and care?
Thinking about these questions will help you to decide what to base your artwork on.
Create
Create your own artwork that shows us the ways you connect and love the environment around you. Your artwork can be in the form of drawing, painting, photograph or digital illustration.
We encourage using materials for your artwork that are easily accessible and already available to you. Examples of this include pencils and paints you already have, recycled materials (such as bottles, paper, fabric, etc that is no longer in use) or other materials that are found in nature such as leaves, sticks or bark.
Note: Your artwork must be your own original work and needs to be created specifically for the NSW Children’s Week 2024 Art competition.
Describe
In 50-150 words, explain what your artwork represents including the reasons how and why you feel connected to the environment and how you show it love. This description will be provided through the submission form alongside your artwork.
Submit
Once you have completed your artwork please take a clear digital picture of your artwork. Then, click on the submission form here and fill in the appropriate details. Insert the picture and description of your artwork in the sections provided.
The submission form will be open until Sunday 13 October 2024.
If you have any questions or require assistance completing the entry form, please contact our office on (02) 9248 0970.

There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place chosen for each of the 3 age groups (5 years and under, 6-11 years and 12-18 years), with up to nine winners in total.
