Children and young people in the Central West and Orana region have taken part in the following ACYP face-to-face consultations.


Consultations in Regional NSW

In all ACYP consultations, at least 40% of children and young people that participate live in regional NSW. ACYP has heard back from children and young people across all regions, including those living in the Central West and Orana. ACYP has produced a report of the views and experiences of more than 4,000 children and young people living in regional NSW.


The Strategic Plan

Over 4,000 children and young people engaged in face-to-face consultations to inform the themes and direction of the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People. These consultations included children and young people from schools and youth organisations from across the Central West and Orana region. These voices informed the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People.


Childhood Obesity – Citizen’s Jury

A total of 130 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to discuss childhood obesity, specifically on whether sugary drinks should be banned in schools and sporting venues. These consultations included children and young people from Central West and Orana region. Their feedback informed the development of a report that was produced for the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Violence against children and young people

In ACYP’s consultations with over 30,000 children and young people across NSW, violence continues to be raised. The issue has come up in consultations with children and young people experiencing homelessness; in juvenile detention and other socially excluded children and young people.

A total of 202 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to discuss what violence means to them; the locations where violence happens to children and young people and what they think should happen in their communities to end violence against children and young people. These consultations included children and young people from the Central West and Orana region. Their voices informed the development of a report that focuses on what children and young people had to say about violence

Juvenile Justice

Children and young people have spoken about their experiences of the juvenile justice system across a range of ACYP consultations including those conducted for the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People; as well as consultations with children and young people experiencing homelessness, consultations with children and young with experiences living in out of home care (OOHC), consultations with children and young people about their experiences of violence, and with socially excluded children and young people.

A total of 260 children and young people in juvenile justice centres participated in face-to-face consultations. These consultations included children and young people from the Juvenile Justice Centre in the Central West and Orana. This feedback informed a report that focuses on what children and young people in Juvenile Justice Centres have to say.

NSW Education Standards Authority Minimum Standards

A total of 154 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations undertaken by ACYP for the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). These consultations included young people from 2 schools in the Central West and Orana region. Their feedback on the HSC Minimum Standards informed the development of a report that was produced for NESA.
