Education

Education has been a dominant issue raised by children and young people across all ACYP consultations. During consultations for the development of the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People, education was the number one area raised as working well and not working well for children and young people.

ACYP has also worked together with the Department of Education, the NSW Association of Independent Schools, the NSW Catholic Schools Office and the NSW Education Standards Authority on a range of specific and targeted consultations to ensure children and young people are given a say in decision making regarding all aspects of their education and time spent at school. Consultations have included seeking students’ views regarding the introduction of the minimum standards for literacy and numeracy; what education should look like in the 21st Century as well as specific consultations to inform the review of the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for young Australians.
