ACYP has held face-to-face consultations with children and young people in New England and the North West to hear their views and recommendations. The consultations covered a range of topics, more information can be found below.


Consultations in Regional NSW

In all ACYP consultations, at least 40% of children and young people that participate live in regional NSW. ACYP has heard back from children and young people across all regions, including those living in New England and the North West. ACYP has produced a report of the views and experiences of more than 4,000 children and young people living in regional NSW.


The Strategic Plan

Over 4,000 children and young people engaged in face-to-face consultations to inform the themes and direction of the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People. These consultations included children and young people from the New England and North West region. These voices informed the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People.


Homelessness

Children and young people have raised the issue of youth homelessness across a range of ACYP consultations; including those conducted for the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People; as well as with children and young people in juvenile detention and with socially excluded children and young people.

A total of 60 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to share their experiences of homelessness. These consultations included children and young people from the New England and North West region.

A further 38 children and young were involved in consultations that led to the creation of a play to raise awareness of youth homelessness, ‘Follow Me Home’ by ATYP. This consultation included children and young people from the New England and North West region.

Community Inclusion

ACYP undertook consultations with 100 children and young people across NSW to hear from them what makes them feel welcome and unwelcome in their communities. These consultations included children and young people living in the New England and North West region.


Melbourne Declaration

A total of 184 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to inform the NSW Department of Education review of the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians. These consultations included children and young people from the New England and North West region.
