Children and young people in the Riverina Murray area have provided their views and recommendations to ACYP in the following consultations.


Consultations in Regional NSW

In all ACYP consultations, at least 40% of children and young people that participate live in regional NSW. ACYP has heard back from children and young people across all regions, including those living in the Riverina Murray area. ACYP has produced a report of the views and experiences of more than 4,000 children and young people living in regional NSW.


The Strategic Plan

Over 4,000 children and young people engaged in face-to-face consultations to inform the themes and direction of the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People. These consultations included children and young people from 4 youth organisations in the Riverina Murray region. These voices informed the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People.


Childhood Obesity – Citizen’s Jury

A total of 130 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to discuss childhood obesity, specifically on whether sugary drinks should be banned in schools and sporting venues. These consultations included children and young people from the Riverina Murray region. Their feedback informed the development of a report that was produced for the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Mental Health

Children and young people have spoken about their mental health experiences across a range of ACYP consultations starting with those conducted for the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People. In these consultations with more than 4,000 children and young people, mental health awareness and support was raised as one of the most important issues affecting children and young people in NSW.

Following the launch of the Plan, a total of 342 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations undertaken by ACYP to discuss what is and is not working in relation to mental health and wellbeing for children and young people. These consultations included children and young people in the Riverina Murray region. Their feedback informed the development of a report.

Juvenile Justice

Children and young people have spoken about their experiences of the juvenile justice system across a range of ACYP consultations including those conducted for the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People; as well as consultations with children and young people experiencing homelessness, consultations with children and young with experiences living in out of home care (OOHC), consultations with children and young people about their experiences of violence, and with socially excluded children and young people.

A total of 260 children and young people in juvenile justice centres participated in face-to-face consultations. These consultations included children and young people from the Juvenile Justice Centre in the Riverina Murray region. This feedback informed a report that focuses on what children and young people in Juvenile Justice Centres have to say.
