ACYP undertook face-to-face consultations with children and young people in the Far West region to hear what they had to say about particular topics. Information about these consultations can be found below.
In all ACYP consultations, at least 40% of children and young people that participate live in regional NSW. ACYP has heard back from children and young people across all regions, including those living in the Far West. ACYP has produced a report of the views and experiences of more than 4,000 children and young people living in regional NSW.
Over 4,000 children and young people engaged in face-to-face consultations to inform the themes and direction of the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People. These consultations included children and young people from 4 schools and youth organisations in the Far West region. These voices informed the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People.
A total of 130 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to discuss childhood obesity, specifically on whether sugary drinks should be banned in schools and sporting venues. These consultations included children and young people from the Far West region. Their feedback informed the development of a report that was produced for the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Children and young people have spoken about their mental health experiences across a range of ACYP consultations starting with those conducted for the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People. In these consultations with more than 4,000 children and young people, mental health awareness and support was raised as one of the most important issues affecting children and young people in NSW.
Following the launch of the Plan, a total of 342 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations undertaken by ACYP to discuss what is and is not working in relation to mental health and wellbeing for children and young people. These consultations included children and young people in the Far West region. Their feedback informed the development of a report.
