ACYP held face-to-face consultations with children and young people in the North Coast to listen to their opinions and recommendations. The consultations covered a range of topics, more information can be found below.
In all ACYP consultations, at least 40% of children and young people that participate live in regional NSW. ACYP has heard back from children and young people across all regions, including those living on the North Coast. ACYP has produced a report of the views and experiences of more than 4,000 children and young people living in regional NSW.
Over 4,000 children and young people engaged in face-to-face consultations to inform the themes and direction of the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People. These consultations included children and young people from 3 schools and youth organisations from across the North Coast region. These voices informed the NSW Strategic Plan for Children and Young People.
Children and young people have raised the issue of youth homelessness across a range of ACYP consultations; including those conducted for the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People; as well as with children and young people in juvenile detention and with socially excluded children and young people.
A total of 60 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to share their experiences of homelessness. These consultations included children and young people from the North Coast region. Their voices informed the development of a report that focuses on what children and young people experiencing homelessness have to say.
A total of 130 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to discuss childhood obesity, specifically on whether sugary drinks should be banned in schools and sporting venues. These consultations included children and young people from the North Coast Region. Their feedback informed the development of a report that was produced for the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Children and young people have spoken about their experiences of the juvenile justice system across a range of ACYP consultations including those conducted for the Strategic Plan for Children and Young People; as well as consultations with children and young people experiencing homelessness, consultations with children and young with experiences living in out of home care (OOHC), consultations with children and young people about their experiences of violence, and with socially excluded children and young people.
A total of 260 children and young people in juvenile justice centres participated in face-to-face consultations. These consultations included children and young people from the Juvenile Justice Centre in the North Coast. This feedback informed a report that focuses on what children and young people in Juvenile Justice Centres have to say.
A total of 176 children and young people who are refugees or asylum seekers participated in face-to-face consultations to share their experiences. These consultations included children and young people from 2 schools in the North Coast region. Their feedback on their experiences informed the development of a report.
A total of 608 children and young people participated in face-to-face consultations to share their views on creating child safe organisations. These consultations included children and young people in the North Coast region.
