Biggest Recess 2018

Biggest Recess was held this year on Friday 26 October. Organisations were encouraged to take 20 minutes out of their day, have fun with activities and eat a healthy snack. The aim of the Biggest Recess is for adults to model healthy behaviours to the children and young people in their lives. Organisations were asked to register their participation through the Biggest Recess website and to take photos of their activities on the day. The Biggest Recess is part of the Premier’s Priority of Tackling Childhood Obesity.

Organisations could get involved by participating in: a healthy morning tea or lunch at work, fun activities and games, going on a team walking exercise during lunch break.

Each year, ACYP invites a Biggest Recess Ambassador to represent the aims and objectives of the campaign. This year, media personality Rachael Finch took up the role as Ambassador for the Biggest Recess.

Rachael met with ACYP and showed the team how easy it is to take 20 minutes out of the working day to do some exercise. Rachael ran through a series of exercises that are best suited for those working in an office environment. Rachael later demonstrated to the team how to make a simple and healthy smoothie which can be made with basic ingredients. Ingredients included: bananas, coconut milk, peanut butter, spinach and protein power.

Rachael appeared on the Morning Show on Thursday 25 October, the day before the Biggest Recess to speak about the initiative and how people can get involved.

The first Biggest Recess took place on 28 October 2016 and to date, hundreds of organisations have registered their participation through the Biggest Recess website.

We are currently asking organisations to send through their photographs to show ACYP what they got up to for Biggest Recess. Click below to upload your photographs.
