Submissions by the Advocate for Children and Young People

Since 2006, the ACYP has submitted over 60 written submissions and the Advocate has appeared at hearings as a witness and expert before Parliamentary Committees.

What are submissions to Parliament?

Parliamentary Committees are groups of members of Parliament that are appointed to examine issues in more detail than is possible if the matter were considered in the House.

Committees:

  • can call for written submissions, conduct hearings where witnesses give evidence and seek advice from experts.
  • increase public awareness and debate on issues under consideration by Parliament.
  • benefit the community by reviewing proposed laws.
  • facilitate more informed policy-making.
  • ensure greater government accountability.
  • report their findings and recommendations for government action to Parliament.
