NSW Children’s Week will be celebrated from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November, with the launch taking place at a special awards ceremony at Government House on 21 October.

The Advocate for Children and Young People, Andrew Johnson, is this year’s NSW Children’s Week Ambassador and is working closely with the organising committee to ensure a successful and memorable event

NSW Children’s Week is part of a national week dedicated to celebrating children and highlighting their achievements. This year NSW Children’s Week will mark the 25th anniversary of Australia’s ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child with the theme ‘Children’s Rights are Human Rights’.

As part of the week long celebrations, awards will be presented to recognise outstanding achievements by children and the work of adults in supporting any relevant endeavour as an individual or part of a group. Nominations are now being accepted for the following awards:

  • Exceptional Young Person
  • Endeavour Award
  • Community Commitment Award
  • Advocacy for Children Award

Children’s week presents an opportunity for local communities and those who work with children and young people to come together and celebrate.

Local governments, libraries, schools, non-government organisations and community groups are encouraged to organise events celebrating children to take place between 24 October and 1 November. Events can be registered on the official NSW Children’s Week website.
